Cross-disciplinary approaches in time-based art – lecture/artist talk

15/06/2023

Together with Valentina Besegher Scotti (visual artist, curator) we will discuss our artistic research and the interdisciplinary outcomes of our joint project Labor Neunzehn, at the intersection of time-based art practices.

Selected duo works in terms of material and spatial organisation (sound installation, live audiovisual performance, video art) will be presented and discussed, while an overview of our personal research on topics such as the space of resonance, the use of the archive and found footage will be offered. Extracts, including scores, sketches, video and sound recordings, will support the presentation.

Music Current Festival

12/04/2023

As a recipient of the 2022/23 Music Current Commission Award my piece Calanchi receives its premiere at this year’s Festival at the Project Arts Centre in Dublin.

“Calanchi” frames a series of musical objects, or musical thoughts for piano and guitar, that investigate concavity, erosion, friction, pressure and dynamic voids in sound, as well as the chromatic qualities of these two chordophones. The premiere of the piece is performed by Izumi Kimura (piano) and Shane Latimer (electric guitar).

In the context of the festival I partecipate to the panel discussion “Beyond Pitch: perspectives on new music composition methods” along with the composers Francis Heery, Michael Maierhof, Natacha Diels, the pianist Izumi Kimura, and the visual artist Jaki Irvine.

The project is kindly supported by www.goethe.de/culturemoveseurope

debole forza for piano and ebow (revision premiere)

31/01/2023

I am pleased to be working on a revision of my original piece “debole forza” (2010, for piano and e-bow) now commissioned by the American-Canadian pianist Andrew Zhou. The revised piece will be premiered in Berlin in a double-bill concert for piano (Andrew Zhou) and clarinet (Ingólfur Vilhjálmsson) on January 31, 2023.

CANCELLED – New audiovisual work by Besegher/Massobrio at the Tehran International Electronic Music Festival – TIEMF

08/12/2022

Due to the current situation in the country, the ‘Tehran International Electronic Music Festival’ has been postponed until next year. I would like to follow the festival organisers in their decision to “show our solidarity and unity with the people and their movement” as well as in their hope “that next year this festival be held in a ‘free’ Iran and under more favourable conditions”.
